Green plumbing means having plumbing equipment and systems that help conserve water and energy, and use less chemicals that harm the environment. Not only does it reduce costs on your bill, but it helps our society & environment.

The following are characteristics of green plumbing:

  • Low flush toilets – Switching to 1.6 gpf (gallons per flush) toilets can save you 15,000 gallons of water a year.

  • Dual flush toilets – The EPA has stated that if everyone would switch to a dual flush toilets, we could be saving 2 billion gallons of water a day.

  • Energy Star washing machines & dishwashers – They minimize water use and are energy efficient.

  • Green layouts – Optimizing pipe diameters & circulation and minimizing water and energy used in producing hot water.

  • Greywater collection – Barrel systems that collects around 20,000 gallons of water a year from bathroom, kitchen, & laundry use to be used for other purposes.

  • Drain water heat recovery – System that recycles energy used to heat water for upcoming water that needs to be heated.

  • High efficiency shower heads – Switching to shower heads that exert no more than 2 gallons of water per minute. Saves 300 kilowatts of electricity a year.

  • High efficiency faucets – Switch to faucets that don’t flow out no more than 1.5 gallons of water per minute.

  • Add insulation to water heaters.
